WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Harvard University has won an initial legal battle against the Trump administration’s decision to block foreign students from attending the university.

According to international media reports, a US federal judge has stopped the Trump administration from enforcing its move to ban foreign students at Harvard.

The judge said that the temporary restraining order issued last week will remain in place.

Last week, the Trump administration tried to cancel Harvard’s right to admit international students, raising concerns across academic circles.

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem had sent a letter to Harvard informing the university of the administration’s decision.

She said the move was part of an ongoing Homeland Security investigation into the university.

The Department of Homeland Security claimed that Harvard’s certification for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program had been revoked.

This meant the university could not admit new foreign students and current international students would have to transfer elsewhere.

Harvard strongly opposed the decision, calling it unlawful and harmful. The university warned that the move would damage not only Harvard but also the country’s reputation and higher education system.

Following Harvard’s legal challenge, a US court has now halted the enforcement of the Trump administration’s decision, allowing foreign students to remain at Harvard while the case continues.
