ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The government is likely to announce the distribution of energy-saving fans on easy, interest-free installments in the upcoming budget, local media has reported.
The move is part of the national plan aimed at curbing soaring electricity consumption and providing financial relief to citizens.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already approved the plan, local media cited sources in the Ministry of Finance.
Under the plan, households across the country will be able to replace conventional AC-fans with energy-efficient DC-fans through bank-supported financing. The cost of these fans will be recovered through monthly electricity bills.
The government is also expected to take the International Monetary Fund (IMF) into confidence regarding the implementation of the scheme, as it involves financial subsidies and support through commercial banks.
Replacing old fans to save electricity
Replacing old fans with energy-efficient ones is projected to save up to 5,000 megawatts of electricity — a significant reduction that could ease the burden on the national grid during peak summer months.
Sources said this is one of several relief-oriented measures being considered in Budget 2025-26 as the premier is said to be keen on offering economic relief to households.
