ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Crucial talks regarding the political situation are set to take place today between the government and the leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI); a joint delegation comprising representatives from the federal government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been formed for this purpose.
The negotiations are scheduled to be held at 12:00 PM in the office of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The decision to hold these talks was reached during a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Presidency.
The meeting included a review of the country’s overall political and security landscape, with a particular focus on the law-and-order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The joint government-PPP delegation includes Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, and PPP leaders Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar, and Aijaz Jakhrani; the delegation will engage with PTI leadership to discuss the current political climate and ongoing tensions.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that the party received a message from the government proposing talks, which was accepted following consultations with opposition leaders.
It is pertinent to note that these negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of PTI’s announced march on Islamabad, scheduled for October 4; the party has emphasized the need to discuss its demands rather than postponing the march.
Barrister Gohar also expressed concerns regarding the possibility of imposing Governor’s Rule, stating that such a move could further complicate the political situation.
All eyes are now on today’s meeting, where representatives from both sides will present their respective stances regarding the current political tension, the protest march, and other political matters; the situation concerning the future political course of action is expected to become clearer as a result of these negotiations.
