LAHORE (Kashmir English): Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) has announced to discontinue the free electricity facility for grades 18-20. Officers will have to pay for electricity for the first time. Officers will be fined about half of their salary for free units.
After withdrawing the facility for grades 18-20, the monthly electricity bills of these officials increased manifold. Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) withdrew the facility of free units of electricity to grades 18-20.
LESCO grade 18 officers got 6000 free units annually, grade 19 received 8000, grade 20 got 10,000 free units in a year; the same was done for grade 18-20 officers in other power distribution companies (DISCOs), but some DISCOs got court orders.
Many power companies continue to provide free electricity facility to officers.
According to officials, the decision by LESCO to provide electricity for free is unlawful. The benefit is already incorporated in the officers’ salaries, and the free electricity facility to officers should be abolished in all public departments, while the Ministry of Energy should make one policy for all Discos.
Other Discos took court stays. NEPRA has increased the salaries of employees of the Central Power Purchase Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) by 10.49% on account of the market operation fee determination for the fiscal year 2025-26, and it has approved salary expenses of the firm to be Rs 1.58 billion and incentives up to Rs 249m. NEPRA approved salary increases and performance-based incentives for the employees of CPPA-G.
