MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission on Friday declared four new members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Council elected unopposed as no other candidate filed nomination papers.
The Election Commission Secretary Ayaz Bashir has issued a notification in this regard.
It stated that the AJK Election Commission declared candidates elected as members of the AJK Council after receiving the election return from the Returning Officer.
The newly elected members include Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Chaudhry Latif Akbar and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates Raja Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed and Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed.
According to the notification, Chaudhry Latif Akbar belongs to Muzaffarabad district, Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas to Bagh district, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed to Mirpur district, and Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed to Muzaffarabad district.
Chaudhry Saeed and Mushtaq Minhas had lost to PPP candidates in the recently held general elections from Mirpur and Bagh, respectively.
Latif Akbar suffered a defeat at the hands of PML-N candidate Saqib Majeed Raja from LA-31 (Muzaffarabad-5) constituency.
PML-N’s senior leader from Muzaffarabad Chaudhry Manzoor has never contested an election.
Four of the six elected seats of the Kashmir Council became vacant following the expiry of the five-year terms of their previous members. The term of office of the four elected members of the Council expired on September 18.
