ISLAMABAD (Kashmir Digital): The Foreign Office has confirmed that Foreign Minister (FM) Ishaq Dar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will hold talks in Washington on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, bilateral relations, regional and international issues, as well as Pak-India relations, will be at the top of the agenda.
Foreign Secretary Shafqat Ali Khan told reporters at the weekly briefing that he can confirm that the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow and all issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as important regional and global issues, including the situation in the Middle East and Iran, will be discussed.
The Pakistan-India issue will also be discussed. We are grateful for the role of the US in reducing tensions and in achieving a ceasefire.
The meeting between Dar and Rubio is part of renewed efforts to restore a structured dialogue between Pakistan and the US.
The Biden administration had completely ignored Pakistan and there was little or no contact at the level of foreign ministers.
Since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s administration, bilateral relations between Pakistan and the US have changed positively.
Relations improved with Pakistan’s cooperation in the arrest of a key mastermind of the Abbottabad bombing in Kabul in August 2021. President Trump had praised Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts in his maiden speech.
The Pak-India dispute after the Pahalgam attack in May brought the two countries closer. Pakistan nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his courageous leadership and peace efforts in the subcontinent to gain more access to the White House.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan will continue to invite India to the negotiating table and move towards a peaceful resolution of the dispute. Pakistan has invited serious talks; India will have to decide.
