ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Severe rainfall is expected in Azad Kashmir that could cause flooding, while there is a possibility of a glacier burst in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the NDMA.
The authority has declared the next 24 hours crucial and issued an alert for harsh weather conditions in the upper regions.
There is a risk of glacial lake outbursts during the next twelve to twenty-four hours, it said.
NDMA, while issuing the alert, warned that there is also a risk of flash flooding from May 16 to 21 due to potential rainfall and avalanches.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, rivers and streams in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir are likely to flood due to rains and glacial lake outbursts.
NDMA has warned citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during this period, as local populations and tourists could face severe risks.
Citizens have been advised to completely avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and to stay away from weak installations, including electricity poles.
Tourists have also been advised not to camp near rivers, streams, and slopes.
NDMA has directed all concerned departments to complete advance preparations and be ready to deal with any emergency situation.
