MUZAFARABAD (Kashmir English): Five butchers arrested in Muzaffarabad Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for overpricing meat in Mutton Market and Gilani Chowk during a crackdown led by the Assistant Commissioner.
In a crackdown against illegal price hikes where the shopkeepers overcharge buyers for profit, Assistant Commissioner Ghulam Mohiuddin took strict action against butchers selling meat above the government fixed rate. The operation targeted Mutton Market and Gilani Chowk, where five butchers were arrested for overcharging their customers.
After the arrest, First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against these butchers. They were then also transferred to the City Police Station for further legal proceedings. These actions aim to enforce price regulations in the region, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The authorities seek to enforce the price regulations and ensure that the regulations are followed and people are charged with only government-approved rates.
Addressing the operation, Assistant Commissioner Ghulam Mohiuddin stated that strict measures would continue against the violators, who seek extra profit and sell things to the public overpriced. He also emphasised that no one would be allowed to overcharge and urged the citizens to report such violations.
“The administration will take immediate action against those selling goods at inflated prices,” he confirmed, encouraging people to file their complaints if they encounter overpricing in the markets.
Authorities have repeated their commitment to maintaining fair pricing across the city and warned businesses against engaging in unethical pricing practices. The crackdown is part of a wider effort to ensure compliance with government-set rates, providing relief to consumers facing rising costs of essential goods.
In recent months, the authorities have been very active. Many crackdowns have taken place in the region, and many shopkeepers have been arrested.
As the campaign against price manipulation continues, residents are being encouraged to actively report violations, reinforcing accountability and consumer rights protection in Muzaffarabad.
