NEW YORK (Kashmir English): FIFA President Gianni Infantino says that the number of teams participating in the FIFA World Cup could be increased from 48 to 64.

The World Cup should not be just for two continents, but everyone should have the right to dream of participating in it, the FIFA chief added.

In an interview with the Swiss broadcaster, Gianni Infantino said that the proposal for a World Cup with 64 teams will be considered by the relevant FIFA committees.

He said that the World Cup is not just for Europe and South America, but for the whole world,  and every country should have the opportunity to dream of participating in the World Cup.

According to Infantino, the quality of football around the world is constantly improving, and if small countries are not allowed to play in the World Cup, their incentive to develop further will also decrease.

The FIFA President described the inclusion of 48 teams for the first time in the 2026 World Cup as 100 percent successful, saying that teams from all continents presented excellent performances and the participation of more countries promoted football globally.
