ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Sheikh Idrees, describing it as a loss not only for his family but for the entire nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Kakar said that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was also deeply saddened upon hearing the news of Sheikh Idrees’ martyrdom.

He clarified that his visit was not politically motivated but was solely aimed at sharing the grief and pain of Sheikh’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“I did not come to do politics, but to stand with the bereaved family in this difficult time,” Kakar said.

Paying tribute to the services of Sheikh Idrees, the former caretaker premier stated that personalities like him are invaluable and their absence is always strongly felt.

He further remarked that Sheikh Idrees rendered significant services, and his martyrdom represents a great national loss.

Shahid Afridi visits home of martyred scholar Sheikh Idrees

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi visited the residence of martyred religious scholar Sheikh Idrees in Peshawar to offer condolences to the bereaved family.

During the visit, Shahid Afridi met the deceased scholar’s son, Maulana Anas, and other family members, expressing deep sorrow over Sheikh Idrees’ martyrdom.

He paid tribute to the late scholar’s religious and academic contributions, stating that his services for Islam and education would always be remembered.

Afridi also offered prayers for the elevation of Sheikh Idrees’ ranks and prayed that Allah grant patience and strength to the grieving family.

Police described the incident as a targeted shooting which resulted in the death of prominent cleric Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai and the injuries of two police constables in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Police reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning at 08 10 am within the boundaries of Utmankhel Police Station in Charsadda. Four unidentified terrorists riding two motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of the religious cleric, who was widely known as Sheikhul Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees.

Hospital personnel received Maulana Idrees and the two injured constables immediately after the incident. The scholar died from his injuries, while the District Headquarters Hospital in Charsadda currently treats the injured constables.

The police established a perimeter around the area and initiated a search operation after the attack occurred. The attackers fled the scene after carrying out the assault. Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed established joint investigation teams, which included Counter Terrorism Department officials and district police officers, to investigate the incident.
