Field Marshal Asim Munir, UN chief Guterres discuss Kashmir dispute, Afghanistan-based terrorism

RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Asim Munir, and United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres discussed matters related to the Kashmir dispute and Afghanistan-based terrorism in Pakistan.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the UN chief called on Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi today.

“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, the prevailing regional security environment and the United Nations’ role in promoting international peace and security were discussed.”

It said that the two sides exchanged views on “regional stability, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India’s abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty and terrorism emanating from Afghanistan”.

COAS Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international peace and highlighted its contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.

“He also lauded the United Nations’ role under the leadership of Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in advancing peace, stability and humanitarian cooperation,” the statement reads.

The UNSG paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of Pakistan and its Armed Forces in the “War against Terror” and in UN peacekeeping missions.

Guterres also acknowledged Pakistan’s continued commitment to international peace and security and specifically “appreciated Pakistan’s efforts towards the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts”.
