TEHRAN (Kashmir English): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir on Monday called on Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during his visit to Tehran, Iranian state-run IRNA reported.
During the meeting, Ghalibaf, who is also the head of the Iranian negotiating team with the US, said that Tehran is pursuing the implementation of the terms of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and it is the “US that must adhere to its commitments based on the memorandum of understanding.”
The IRNA reported that Qalibaf reviewed numerous cases of America’s breach of commitments in implementing the Islamabad MoU.
“The commitments of the parties in the MoU are clear, and it was the US that prevented stability in the region by breaching its commitments and creating another reason for distrust in this country,” the parliament speaker was quoted as saying.
According to the broadcaster, Field Marshal Asim Munir also noted that Pakistan will continue its efforts to restore stability in the region.
Earlier, Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran, Pakistan TV reported.
FM Munir, Naqvi visit
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s visit, saying it is “part of Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.”
“The Field Marshal will focus on promoting efforts towards peaceful, lasting, and comprehensive resolution of the conflict in the Middle East,” the military’s media wing said.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, has confirmed the visit of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to Iran and remarked that crucial meetings will take place during this visit.
As per the Iranian news agency IRNA, Baqaei stated that the purpose of this visit is to strengthen bilateral ties to “one of their strongest stages.”
He noted the visit was unrelated to the visit of Oman’s foreign minister, who is expected to arrive today, adding that “both visits will address regional security issues.”
