ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has officially announced two days of public holidays on the occasion of 9th and 10th Muharram (Ashura 1447 A.H).
According to the notification issued by the Cabinet Division, all federal government offices, institutions, corporations, and departments will remain closed on Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6.
“These days will be observed as public holidays across the country for both five-day and six-day working week offices,” it read.
Furthermore, the notification added that essential services will continue to operate as usual.
Muharram is regarded as one of the four sacred Islamic months. Ashura falls on its 10th day when the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), along with his family members, were martyred in the battle of Karbala.
Strict security arrangements are expected across major cities during processions and gatherings to ensure the safety of participants.
