ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government may change the schedule for presenting the budget in the National Assembly and senate due to the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan set to be held on June 7.
Earlier, the government has announced to lay the budget in the house on June 5 (Friday). However, there are indications that the government may change the schedule of the National Assembly budget session.
It is likely that the budget would now be presented in the National Assembly on June 8, 10 or 12.
According to sources, it is being considered to present the budget in the National Assembly on June 8, 10 or 12 instead of June 5. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has indicated that it will send the amended summary of the budget session to the Prime Minister.
What caused delay in budget session?
Sources said that the top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-N is currently in Gilgit-Baltistan for the election campaign, while the central leadership of Pakistan Peoples’ Party is also engaged in election activities in the region.
Due to the engagement of political parties, consultations and final matters related to the budget could not be completed, as a result of which the budget schedule is going to be revised.
Now, the federal budget is likely to be presented after the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. The government will announce the final schedule later.
It should also be noted that schedule for the National Economic Council meeting was also changed. The NEC meeting was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, but has been postponed while the new date for the meeting will be announced later.
