CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): The algorithm of the world’s most popular social media platform, Facebook, is being updated to prioritize new content.
Now, Facebook will show 50 percent more Reels while scrolling than before, while new artificial intelligence (AI) search tools are also being made part of Facebook.
According to the company, it is now returning to its foundation and will facilitate you in connecting with your friends and family.
Facebook’s vice president of product Jagjit Chawla said in an interview that users had requested that new videos be shown more in their feed.
Facebook’s own internal testing found that prioritizing new content brings users back to the app.
Its users watch more videos, and video watch time has increased by 20% in a year.
The Reels is also adding AI-based search suggestions, under which content will be suggested based on the user’s interests.
Facebook Reels is also adding Instagram-like friends bubbles, meaning friends’ profile pictures will appear floating in the left corner of posts.
Whenever you click on a profile picture, you will be able to chat with them.
This feature will be very helpful for users viewing Facebook Reels who do not yet have a Reels feed of friends’ videos.
Jagjit Chawla said that AI-generated content will also be treated like human-generated content.
He said that if a user shows interest in AI-generated videos or content, the Facebook algorithm will determine recommendations about that topic and content over time.
AI-generated or edited content is now becoming common on social media platforms, due to AI photo and video generation models.
Jagjit Chawla said that the algorithm basically gives importance to the user’s perspective, meaning that if you like, comment or share a particular content, similar content becomes more visible.
In contrast, if you click on the Not Interested button below a video or photo, such content appears less in the feed.
