ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s power crisis has intensified, with the nationwide electricity shortfall exceeding 4,000 megawatts, resulting in increased load-shedding in urban and rural areas.
Sources in the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) said several power plants had gone offline while hydropower generation had also declined, further widening the gap between electricity demand and supply.
According to the sources, electricity demand in LESCO, covering Lahore and nearby districts, has reached around 4,000MW against a supply of approximately 3,000MW. The increase in shortfall has resulted in load shedding of 3 to 4 hours.
The power sector is also facing fuel-related difficulties. Sources said that after gas shortages, a shortage of diesel was now adding to the challenges facing electricity generation.
Sources said the duration of power cuts had increased across all distribution companies, with further deterioration of the power crisis.
