Deputy PM calls for fast-tracking water storage projects

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar presided over a meeting in Islamabad to talk about the construction of big water storage projects across the nation.

The participants were the Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, plus the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Federal Ministers for Water Resources, Planning, Finance, and Law and Justice were also present, alongside Advisors to the Prime Minister on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Special Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister, and senior federal secretaries from key departments.

Top officials from the Economic Affairs Division, Water Resources, Cabinet Division, Finance, Planning Commission, Federal Board of Revenue, and the Chief Secretary of Balochistan also participated in the session.

The meeting focused on speeding up the construction of major water storage facilities and discussed detailed proposals to ensure long-term planning and better mobilisation of financial resources for sustainable water management.

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of using a coordinated and active approach to resolving Pakistan’s water troubles.

According to him, the security of water for future generations depends on federal and provincial governments joining forces and making adequate plans.
