MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Dengue is spreading in Mirpur at a fast pace and this year alone 300 such patients were tested, out of which 58 were found positive, said MS Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur, Dr. Aamir Aziz.
Speaking at a press conference at Kashmir Press Club Mirpur, he said that every individual should play their part to prevent dengue virus adding that KIC hospital was being upgraded.
Last year, he said, more than 550,000 patients were examined at the DHQ hospital and added that patients’ trust in the hospital has increased. There has been immense improvement in DHQ services, he claimed.
Dengue Ward
He said that in view of the dengue outbreak, a separate setup has been created in the hospital where 15 beds have been allocated.
To control dengue, mosquito repellent spray should be used, full-sleeved clothes should be worn, and potential mosquito breeding grounds should be kept clean.
He said the dengue virus mosquito bites at sunrise and sunset, adding awareness campaigns should be launched.
He said that symptoms include severe headache, high fever, joint pain, and dehydration.
Dr. Aamir Aziz said that with the efforts of Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, Kashmir Cardiology Center will be upgraded to a separate heart care hospital with its own staff and officers.
In response to a question, he said that snakebite and dog bite vaccines are available in the hospital.
