Currency exchange business banned in AJK’s Mirpur district on Sundays

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): District Magistrate Yasir Riaz Chaudhry has banned currency exchange business in Mirpur district on Sundays by imposing Section 144 Cr. PC.

The decision has been taken in view of security concerns and non-determination of currency rates due to closure of the central bank on Sundays.

Unveiling the details, a district administration spokesperson said that the currency exchange business continues on Sundays besides the working days in the district.

He said the currency exchange business directly falls under the control, and supervision of the State Bank of Pakistan which would be closed on Sundays due to weekly holiday.

Currency exchange business and security concerns

“On Sundays, the working of the currency exchange centers not only cause security concerns, but also the customers have to suffer due to the non-determination of currency rates following closure of the central bank, the State Bank of Pakistan,” the spokesman added.

“Therefore, in view of the above situation at the national level, the district administration has decided to impose ban on working of currency exchange business in Mirpur district on Sundays due to the security/safety concerns contradictory to the routine working conditions following closure of the SBP on national weekly holiday falling on Sundays”, he added.

“As a result of this ban, no person will do or encourage currency exchange business in Mirpur district on Sundays. If any person/persons are found violating this order, punitive action will be initiated against the violators under Section 188 Azad Penal Code APC,” the prohibitory order said adding that the order came into effect immediately and remain effective for the next two months.
