SAMAHNI (Kashmir English): The Civil Defense Department on Saturday initiated practical operations in Samahni Sub-Division, amid the current tense situation on the border.
The department’s efforts aim to enhance security and awareness among the local population.
In view of the rising tensions on the Line of Control (LoC), the Samahni Civil Defense squad conducted searches in markets, lorry depots, transport centers, and other centers of the Samahni Town Committee and informed them about suspicious items or explosive IEDs.
Transporters, traders, and prominent personalities were informed about the Civil Defense personnel’s contact numbers to approach in case of emergencies.
Speaking on the occasion, Bomb Disposal Commander Subedar Major (retd) Muhammad Gulshair urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or items to the nearest Civil Defense representative, bomb disposal squad, army center, or police station.
He said that the department is activating Civil Defense Committees in areas adjacent to the border, including Dinah, Bandala, and Chahi Nihala.
Gulshair said that the Post Warden of the Civil Defense Organization, Bandala Ali Hasnain, the Post Warden of the Sonavali Organization, Ajmal Sani, the Post Warden of the Dinah Organization, Master Shahnawaz, the Post Warden of the Nihala Chahi Organization, Subedar Muhammad Manzoor, are working and soon the Civil Defense Volunteers will be active.
In a message to the public, he said that citizens should show responsibility in the current tense situation and keep an eye on public places such as roads, fountains, mosques, schools, wedding halls, and areas around them.
