Another child dies after falling into open manhole in Karachi

KARACHI (Kashmir English): In another heart-wrenching incident, a child died after falling into an open manhole in Karachi’s Korangi area on Monday.

According to the police, an 8-year-old child, identified as Dilbar Ali, fell into a sewer in Mehran Town of Korangi. The child was playing in the street when he fell into the manhole and died.

Rescue officials said that the deceased’s body has been removed from the manhole.

Since January this year, this was the 14th reported incident, while a total of 27 people have died due to open manholes and drains. Out of these, 14 children lost their lives after falling into manholes, while 13 people lost their lives after falling into open drains.

Earlier on November 30, a 3-year-old boy fell into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of ​​Karachi. His body was found in a drain one kilometer away after 14 hours.

The child slipped into the uncovered manhole when his family, visiting from Shah Faisal Colony, stepped out of a departmental store.
