KARACHI (Kashmir English): A new and convenient method for receiving funds through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been introduced, ensuring that no unauthorized deductions will occur.

According to Dr. Ismat Nawaz, Additional Secretary of BISP, payments to beneficiaries will continue to be disbursed through authorized agents of partner banks, as it is not feasible to have bank branches in every area of the country.

Dr. Ismat Nawaz further explained that while banks are accountable to BISP, the agents are accountable to their respective banks. Through an interoperable system, beneficiaries will now have the flexibility to withdraw their funds on any day, at any time, and from any participating bank.

How much do beneficiaries receive?

The Additional Secretary of BISP stated that under the Benazir Income Support Programme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance of 14,500 rupees every three months. This initiative aims to provide financial support to low-income households and alleviate their hardships.

A smartphone is not required for a digital wallet.

It was clarified that a key feature of the digital wallet is that a smartphone is not necessary to open one; beneficiaries can access this facility using even a basic mobile phone.

The Benazir Income Support Programme was launched in 2008, and its system has undergone various changes over time. The introduction of the digital wallet is the latest significant update to the programme.

The ‘Social Protection Wallet’ will be exclusively designated for eligible women under the BISP.
