Bangladesh chief adviser Yunus aide suggests 'invasion' of India's seven-sister states if it attacks Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): As Pakistan and India are on the verge of war, a close aide of Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has suggested that Bangladesh should attack the northeastern states of India in case it shows kinetic aggression towards Pakistan.

ALM Fazlur Rahman, a retired Bangladeshi major general, has said that his country should invade and occupy all seven sister states in northeastern India.

In a post on social media, Rahman, who is considered close to Yunus, added that his country should initiate discussions with China for a joint military system in preparation for such a move.

The inflammatory remarks come amid a downward spiral in ties between New Delhi and Dhaka, after the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.

Maj Gen (retired) ALM Fazlur Rahman served as the Director General of the now-renamed Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and is currently the chairperson of the National Independent Commission of Inquiry probing the 2009 Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) revolt.

However, the Bangladeshi government on Friday distanced itself from former army officer ALM Fazlur Rahman’s statement on his personal Facebook account, saying that he expressed these remarks solely in a personal capacity

“The comments do not reflect the position or policies of the government of Bangladesh, and as such, the government neither endorses nor supports such rhetoric in any form or manner,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a media release.

The government urged all concerned to refrain from associating the state with the personal views expressed by Major General (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman.
