Bakery fined Rs 1 lakh in Mirpur for selling unhygienic, expired food items

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The local authorities on Friday raided a local bakery and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for selling expired items.

The raid was conducted on M/s Cakes and Bakes at Allama Iqbal Road in the lake-side city of Mirpur.

Assistant Commissioner Raja Zahid led the raiding team that included Tehsildar Imran Yousaf Chaudhry and the officials of local Food Inspection Department.

The team found a huge quantity of expired bakery items from the outlet, according to Duty Magistrate / Tehsildar Imran Yousaf Chaudhry.

The action was taken on the special directives of Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz Chaudhry.

During the raid, the team recovered and confiscated all the edibles from the refrigerators. They found expired items injurious to human health. The team imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the spot to the bakers for selling substandard food items.

The administration has, meanwhile, announced zero tolerance for the adulterers, warning that no concession will be given for substandard food, poor cleanliness or violation of the law.

The raiding team warned bakery businesses for playing with the consumers’ health.
