ABBOTABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan batter Babar Azam lost his temper after fans repeatedly entered the field and surrounded him during the fourth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I match at Islamabad’s Diamond Ground.
Playing domestic first-class cricket for OGDCL after a seven-year gap, Babar Azam was dismissed for 21 runs against State Bank.
As he returned to the pavilion following his dismissal, a large number of spectators gathered around him. Fans also repeatedly entered the field while he was fielding to take selfies with the star batter.
At one point, Babar was surrounded by several fans and reacted angrily when a spectator approached him for a selfie. He reportedly took the fan’s mobile phone and threw it away.
The growing crowd eventually forced Babar to run towards the dressing room as spectators continued to gather around him.
He last played a first-class match in Pakistan for Central Punjab in December 2019. The Pakistan Cricket Board has made participation in first-class cricket mandatory for players.
Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is also playing first-class cricket after a long hiatus, while other cricketers, including Haris Rauf, Fakhar Zaman, and Salman Ali Agha, are competing in the President’s Trophy.
