MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are set to witness extreme rainfall, which may cause flash floods in the lower-lying areas.

The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rain is likely in various areas of Azad Kashmir and northeastern Punjab today.

According to the Meteorological Department, rains are likely to continue in Azad Kashmir and the northeastern districts of Punjab today as well, which may cause flooding in local and rain-fed rivers.

A low-pressure system is currently located over Madhya Pradesh (India) and is likely to move westwards and may reach Rajasthan during the next 24 hours. Monsoon currents are penetrating Sindh and the eastern parts of Punjab, which are likely to intensify from tomorrow evening/night.

Mainly, hot and dry weather is expected over most parts of the country. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershowers is expected at isolated places in southeast Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir during the afternoon.

Earlier, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) urged local authorities to take precautionary measures to mitigate any possible emergency that may arise due to the inclement weather.
