Azad Kashmir to observe another spell of rain, snowfall from Feb 1

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): State Disaster Management Authority Azad Kashmir has issued weather advisory for rain and snowfall from February 1 to 3.

According to the Meteorological Department, a series of westerly winds entered the country on the night of January 30.

Light to moderate snowfall is expected in the hilly areas of Azad Kashmir from February 1 to 3.

Heavy rainfall and severe snowfall are expected in the upper areas of Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, and Poonch.

Possibility of landslides, road closures in Azad Kashmir

Due to the weather conditions, there is a strong possibility of landslides, road closures, and disruption of traffic.

The public and tourists have been advised to check the latest weather and road conditions before traveling.

People residing in hilly areas should take precautionary measures, the advisory said.

According to SDMA, there is also a risk of road closures and slipperiness due to snowfall in the upper areas of Azad Kashmir.

SDMA officials said a significant drop in temperature is expected, as it advised citizens to be careful.

SDMA officials have instructed district administration, Rescue 1122, and relevant departments to remain on high alert, order 24-hour monitoring of the situation.

They have also been asked to issue instructions in advance to travelers about the risks of landslides and hailstorms, and that they should be careful when traveling in hilly areas.
