Azad Kashmir Prime Minister reviews upcoming monsoon preparations

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, chaired a meeting to review preparations for the upcoming monsoon season, expected to start from June 24 to July 2.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and thunderstorms in areas of Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

As per details, today’s meeting was attended by the Most Senior Minister Colonel (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor, senior government officials, including ministers, the Chief Secretary Khushal Khan, Divisional Commissioners, SDMA, and emergency relief officials.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and the Local Government Department vowed to ensure the cleaning of storm drains before the monsoon season. It was decided in the meeting that an effective awareness campaign will be launched with the cooperation of the Information Department to educate citizens about monsoon preparedness.

The meeting also decided to establish a control room for quick response during the monsoon, involving emergency relief departments, including Health, Police, and Highways.

Furthermore, the formation of committees at the local level will be ensured for better coordination and response. “Immediate steps will be taken to ensure the uninterrupted supply of medicines and flour during the monsoon,” the meeting maintained.

Moreover, the meeting was also directed to identify areas likely to be affected by a cloudburst. “Hospitals will maintain 24-hour medicine and medical emergency services during the monsoon.”

Prime Minister directed that citizens should adopt precautionary measures during the monsoon. He added that the Press Information Department should provide authentic and timely information to inform citizens about the current situation during the monsoon.
