ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Shawwal moon was sighted across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Sunday evening, confirming that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated nationwide on Monday when the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee finalizes the official announcement. Moon sightings are being reported actively.

The Shawwal 1446 moon sighting occurred in multiple cities of Pakistan, Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad, which led to the nationwide celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, March 31, 2025.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee holds its final session in Islamabad to report moon sighting results based on reports from different Pakistani regions. Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad leads the session, during which the major city zonal committee reports are being crosschecked.

According to sources, credible witnesses in Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad reported seeing the crescent on Sunday evening. The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had earlier predicted that the Shawwal moon was born on March 29 at 3:58 PM (PST) and would be approximately 27 hours old by sunset on March 30, making it easily visible across the country.

The local moon sighting committees have received testimony results and their residents now prepare to celebrate Eid. Marketplaces in Muzaffarabad, along with Rawalakot and numerous other urban centers, experience active shopping patterns of goods, including clothes, sweets and presents, ahead of the festive holiday.

The people of Azad Kashmir dedicate their time to prepare for Eid through kitchen work, home decorations and prayer arrangements as well as family celebrations. Charity organisations are also distributing food packs and financial aid to underprivileged families so they can partake in the festivities.

With the Shawwal moon now confirmed, people in Azad Kashmir and across Pakistan will unite in gratitude and celebration, marking the end of Ramadan with prayers, feasts, and communal harmony.
