DOHA (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif has been knocked out of the IBSF World Snooker Championship after losing in the quarterfinals.
The journey of all Pakistani players came to an end on the fifth day of the ongoing IBS World Snooker Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Three-time world champion Mohammad Asif, who was trying to defend his title, lost 3-4 frames to Poland’s Michael Szubrczy in the quarterfinals after a tough match.
Mohammad Asif defeated the highly experienced player Amir Sarkhosh of Iran in the pre-quarterfinals.
Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal also faced failure in the quarterfinals. He was defeated by England’s Harvey Chandler by 1-4 frames. Asjad Iqbal defeated Hong Kong’s Chow Hon-man 1-4 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Pakistan’s world under-17 champions Mohammad Hasnain Akhtar and Shahid Iqbal had already been knocked out of the championship.
Earlier, Pakistani Snooker Champion Muhammad Asif won his first match in the IBSF World Snooker Championship.
According to reports, world champion Muhammad Asif defeated his opponent, Singapore’s Chan Keng Kwang, 0-4 after an easy match in the IBSF World Snooker Championship.
Muhammad Asif’s winning frame scores were 9-89, 44-73, 48-58, and 13-83.
However, the other national cueist and World Under-17 Champion Muhammad Hasnain lost to Hong Kong’s Tam Yun Fung by a tough frame score of 4-3.
Fung’s winning frame scores were 73-38, 42-77, 59-52, 26-70, 79-26, 47-80, and 4-116. During the match, the winner also played a century break in the seventh frame.
In the first phase of the championship, 48 players have been divided into 12 groups.
After the league round, 2 players from each group will make it to the knockout round.
