LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem dedicated his recent victory at the Asian Athletics Championships to the nation, crediting prayers and support from the people for his success, he is expected to return tonight
Nadeem is scheduled to arrive at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport at 10:20 PM tonight.
In a video message shared on Instagram, Nadeem said: “It is because of all your prayers that Allah made me successful in the finals, and gave respect to Pakistan when I won gold at the Asian Athletics Championship.”
Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal with an impressive throw of 86.40 metres in his final attempt, once again making the country proud. The powerful throw was just shy of the championship record of 86.72 metres.
This was Nadeem’s first appearance in a competition since his record-breaking performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he stunned the world with a 92.97-metre throw, setting a new Olympic benchmark.
Reflecting on his latest win, Arshad Nadeem said it was the result of the nation’s prayers and the combined efforts of him and his coach, Salman Iqbal Butt.
“This was my first competition since the Paris Olympics, and Allah gave victory to Pakistan,” he stated.
The champion javelin thrower is expected to arrive at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport at 10:20 PM tonight.
Arshad Nadeem’s win also marked a historic moment for Pakistan. He is the first Pakistani athlete in more than five decades to earn a gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships.
Pakistan last won gold in this event in 1973, with Allah Dada taking the javelin throw and Muhammad Younis winning the 800 meters at the Philippines championships.
Arshad Nadeem is also Pakistan’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medallist and the only athlete to win a medal in athletics for the country at the Summer Olympics.
Throughout his career, he has brought home four golds, a silver, and four bronze medals from top-tier competitions including the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Islamic Solidarity Games, South Asian Games, and the Asian U20 Championships.
