MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir has adjourned the hearing on a plea for an urgent hearing of the constitutional writ petition against the election of Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
The petition filed by former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan alleges that Anwarul Haq’s election as Prime Minister is contrary to Article 17(2) of the Constitution.
The two-member Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice Khawaja Muhammad Naseem Khan and Justice Raja Ali Khan, heard the plea for an urgent hearing on Monday and adjourned the hearing until Thursday, August 21.
The Supreme Court bench issued orders to link the hearing of Farooq Haider’s petition with the appeal.
Former Prime Minister AJK Farooq Haider argued that the writ petition has been pending in the High Court for the past one year. He requested an urgent hearing through a petition in the Supreme Court.
Raja Farooq Haider Khan and his lawyer, Raja Ayaz Farid Advocate, appeared before the bench, arguing that if an incompetent person continues to hold the office of Prime Minister, the government’s decisions become doubtful.
“Therefore, an urgent hearing of the constitutional petition is an indispensable constitutional necessity,” petitioner said to the court.
Haider has sought the annulment of the interim orders of the High Court dated June 17, July 3, and July 21, 2025, and the appeal has also been requested for urgent hearing.
