AJK High Court reinstates District Bar Association Haveli elections

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reinstated the elected candidates of District Bar Association Haveli Kahutta annual election, declaring the AJK Bar Council decision null and void.

In a verdict, the high court cancelled the Azad Kashmir Bar Council’s order to re-hold the election of the District Bar Association (DBA) Haveli on March 8.

Moreover, the court has reinstated the newly-elected President DBA Haveli Kahutta Farooq Gujjar, Vice President Aziz Farooqi, and Secretary Publication and Publicity Jahangir Akhtar Chaudhry.

As per details, an appeal was filed in the AJK Bar Council against the annual DBA Haveli elections, in which Farooq Gujjar Advocate was elected as the President along with other office bearers.

In response to the plea, the Bar Council declared the February 8 elections null and void without hearing the elected candidates and ordered re-election on March 8.

Later, the successful candidates Advocate Farooq Gujjar and Advocate Jahangir Akhtar challenged the decision in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The court declared the decision of the Bar Council null and void and canceled the order for re-election.
