AJK govt approves additional funds for increased refugee allowance

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Tuesday notified a major allocation for refugee welfare to facilitate the recent increase in the monthly subsistence allowance of Kashmiri refugees 1989-90.

Earlier this month, on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif announced the increase in the monthly per capita allowance of Kashmiri refugees (1989-90).

According to the notification, the President of AJK has approved an additional amount of Rs 730.470 million for the remaining five months (Feb to June) of Fiscal Year 2025-26.

Furthermore, the President also approved the allocation of Rs 3,334.104 million in the budget of the Rehabilitation Department for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2026-17 for the provision of Subsistence Allowance for Refugees.

Refugees express gratitude

Refugees Working Committee members express gratitude for the notification of an increase in the monthly subsistence allowance of Jammu Kashmir refugees 1989-90.

The refugee representatives have thanked the President, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and the Field Marshal who resolved the long-standing problem of Kashmir refugees.

An important meeting of the Refugee Working Committee was held in the capital, Muzaffarabad, today, in which the President of Refugees Working Committee, Kashmir Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, Patron-in-Chief of the Working Committee, Chaudhry Muhammad Feroz Din, Deputy Chief Raja Muhammad Arif Khan, Secretary General Gohar Ahmed Kashmiri, and others were present.

The members of the working committee said that the increase in the allowance of Kashmiri refugees would reduce their financial difficulties.

The working committee thanked the leadership, including Syed Salahuddin, Chairman of the Muttahida Jihad Council, the Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir Branch, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, and other leadership for their efforts and cooperation to resolve the problems of the refugees.

The Refugee Working Committee announced that it will continue its democratic struggle until the demands included in its Charter of Demand are met.

The committee announced that all the basic human, social, and political rights of the Jammu and Kashmir refugees will be protected.
