AJK Food Authority takes strict action against illicit milk import

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority, Mirpur District, has taken strict action against the import of milk from outside Azad Kashmir.

District Food Controller/Food Safety Officer Imtiaz Hussain Lal along with the Food Authority team (Assistant Food Safety Officers Asif Riaz, Mudassir-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Mubeen, Sohail Abbas, Shahryar Ahmed and Assistant Staff Muhammad Tanveer, Abdul Rahim and Muhammad Javed took action in the light of the orders of the Honorable Supreme Court and the Secretary of the Food Authority.

They set up a checkpoint at Mangla Entry Point and Jatlan Head early in the morning for importing milk from outside Azad Kashmir, seized a vehicle and a rickshaw, and 10 motorcycles, and destroyed 1376 liters of milk worth three lakh two thousand seven hundred and twenty (302720) rupees on the spot.

In addition, a total fine of Rs. 185,000 was imposed on the spot for violating the standing instructions by destroying the bakers’ products/substandard items, and food items.

The Food Authority District Mirpur warned that in light of the orders of the Honorable Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Secretary Food Authority has banned the import of milk from outside Azad Kashmir.

Therefore, no one is allowed to bring milk from outside within the boundaries of Azad Kashmir, therefore, legal action will be taken against the violators.
