NEELUM (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority thoroughly inspected hotels and guesthouses in the tourist destination of Keran and imposed fines over poor hygiene.
The standards of cleanliness and food safety in guesthouses and shops was reviewed under the supervision of Food Safety Officer Syed Shujaat Hussain Naqvi.
Fines collectively exceeding Rs 33,000 were imposed on hotels and guest houses for lack of hygiene in the kitchens. Substandard cooking oil was disposed of, and warning notices were issued to the owners.
Hotels directed to improve hygiene arrangements
Instructions were given to immediately improve hygiene arrangements. All guesthouses and shopkeepers were instructed to maintain complete cleanliness and use and sell food items only that are officially approved and registered by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority.
No unregistered or substandard food item will be allowed to be sold, and strict action will be taken in case of violation, the food authority team warned.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority team included Food Analyst Nazish Ashraf, Assistant Food Safety Officer Khawaja Mumtaz, Hafiz Anwar, and Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah. Citizens have praised the Food Authority team’s action.
