AJK Election Commission moves to prepare Computerized Electoral Rolls

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has given final approval to the draft of business required documents for the installation of the computerized electoral rolls.

The commission also decided to consult political parties for transparent elections in the migrant constituencies.

Election Commission Member Syed Nazir ul Hassan Gilani chaired an important meeting which was attended by the Secretary Election Commission, Director Public Relations, and others.

In the meeting, a detailed review of the computerized electoral rolls for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission was conducted in light of the historic agreement signed between the three institutions at NADRA Headquarters Islamabad last month.

It was decided in the meeting that all stages of the project would be completed within the stipulated period under the agreement.

After this system becomes operational in the central and district offices of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission, all matters related to the preparation of electoral rolls, including the registration, deletion, change, and correction of votes, and all matters related to the formation and delimitation of constituencies will begin to be carried out with the help of the latest technology.

Free, fair, and impartial elections

On this occasion, the Election Commission member also expressed his determination that before the upcoming general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, latest information technology would be acquired on a priority basis to ensure the transparency of the electoral process and to make the elections free, fair, and impartial in every respect.

In the meeting, various proposals for the transparency of the electoral process in the 12 constituencies reserved for migrants residing in Pakistan were also reviewed in detail.

It was decided that in this regard, a strategy would be prepared with the consultation and agreement of all political parties to permanently address concerns regarding the transparency in future elections.
