MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Higher Education Department has issued new gender-based guidelines for teacher transfers and postings following judgments from the AJK Supreme Court.

According to the directives, no male lecturers, assistant professors, or associate professors would be appointed in women’s institutions, and no female lecturers, assistant professors, or associate professors would be appointed in men’s institutions.

Furthermore, the department said that any official of the Higher Education Department found negligent in this regard would be subject to disciplinary action.

“All proposed transfers will be made with full justification, and transfers may be made only between equivalent posts,” the directive added.

It is pertinent to mention that in Azad Kashmir, at the college and university level, many male teachers are appointed in girls’ colleges, and female teachers are appointed in boys’ colleges, against which the Supreme Court has ruled.
