MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Chattar Klas ‘dolli lift’ in AJK has been using stolen electricity since long in collusion with department officials, it has emerged.
The ‘dolli lift’, a dangerous commute across the rivers in Azad Kashmir, is used to travel across the rivers to save time as the other ways around are usually longer routes.
Kashmir Digital, in a routine visit, found that the manually operated doli, fitted on the river in Chattar Klas, is being run without having an electricity meter, causing loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer annually.
The electricity is being stolen by using hooks since long in collusion with the Electricity Department in Chattar Klas.
Furthermore, almost all hotels in Aabshaar are also using electricity without meters, it has also been observed.
For a year, the employees of the electricity department have been collecting their share from the power thieves while the government treasury received no amount.
AJK lacks basic infrastructure
Many areas of AJK are still without the basic infrastructure of bridges.
People in Azad Kashmir use out dated modes of travel which are both old and dangerous from the safety perspective.
Dolli lift made of iron bars, hangs in the air, connected through ropes from one side to the other, can move across 3-4 people at a time across the river.
It is operated by a man standing on one side of the river, spinning the steel wheel with his hands while passengers are on board the lift.
