Adviser to AJK govt Nisara Abbasi, IG Police discuss issues faced by women

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Nisara Abbasi, Adviser to the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for Services and General Administration, Chairperson of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, and Member of the National Council on the Status of Women, held an important meeting with the Inspector General of Police Azad Kashmir, Rana Abdul Jabbar.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on issues faced by women, especially sensitive matters such as harassment, domestic violence, and harassment on social media.

Senior Superintendent of Police Muzaffarabad, Riaz Haider Bukhari, was also present on this occasion. Nisara Abbasi stated that the police should take strict action through immediate and transparent investigations in cases of harassment against women, so that the involved elements could be punished according to the law.

She emphasized that providing a safe, dignified, and conducive working environment for women is the collective responsibility.

She praised the police’s performance in recent harassment cases and said that bringing the culprits involved in these incidents to justice is the primary responsibility of the police, and the Women Parliamentary Caucus will fully cooperate with the police in this regard.

The government adviser stated that a large awareness seminar is being organized to inform women about their rights and raise their awareness, where women will be taught where, how, and on which platforms they can raise their voice and seek legal protection in case of any kind of harassment or violence.

She also suggested that women police officers should be appointed to investigate sensitive matters related to women, especially harassment complaints, so that affected women can express their stance freely and without hesitation.

On this occasion, Inspector General of Police Rana Abdul Jabbar assured that women’s issues will be resolved on a priority basis.

He said that a Women Reporting Center is being established for the convenience of women where they can easily register their complaints.

He expressed his determination that those involved in harassment of women will be punished according to the law.
