ICC names four Pakistani players in Women’s World Cup Qualifier team

DUBAI (Kashmir English): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has picked four Pakistani cricketers for its Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025 Team of the Tournament, with Pakistan captain Fatima Sana leading the most prestigious squad.

The line-up includes players from three other nations — West Indies, Scotland, and Bangladesh — alongside Pakistan on the basis of their exceptional performances during the qualifiers.

Pakistan’s skipper, Sana, played a key role in her team’s campaign, contributing both with the bat and the ball.

Sana claimed 4/23 in a rain-affected match against Scotland, helping derail Scotland’s innings. Pakistan eventually won that game by six wickets.

Pakistan’s star opening batter, Muneeba Ali, was another standout performer in the tournament.

She helped her side lay a strong foundation throughout the tournament.

Ali’s best performance came against Scotland, where she scored 71 runs off nearly a ball per run.

Nashra Sandhu claimed 10 wickets at an average of 15.60 to be one of the tournament’s most consistent bowlers.

She took key wickets in the middle overs to keep opposition sides under pressure.

Sadia Iqbal was Pakistan’s other major spin ace. She took nine wickets in the tournament, maintaining an economy rate of under four runs per over. she claimed 3/28 in a tournament match.

The Team of the Tournament also includes some brilliant performers from other countries.

West Indies’ Hayley Matthews who finished as the highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets, including a match-winning 4/24 is also part of the team.

She also scored an unbeaten 114* against Scotland. Her all-round performances were a defining factor in her team’s campaign.

The other players include Kathryn Bryce of Scotland who was named Player of the Tournament for her outstanding all-round performances, and Sharmin Akhter of Bangladesh who earned a spot in the team after scoring 266 runs, including a crucial 94* against Thailand.
