ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday announced a Rs1 per litre reduction in petrol prices for the next fortnight, effective from March 29, 2025 (Saturday).

According to the Finance Division’s notification, petrol will now be available at Rs254.63 per litre, a decrease from Rs255.63.

However, the government kept the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) unchanged at Rs258.64 per litre.

“The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has worked out the consumer prices of petroleum products, based on the price variations in the international market,” the notification read.

The notification stated that the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has calculated petroleum product prices for consumers based on fluctuations in international markets.

The price notification came shortly after the Prime Minister’s Office had announced that the premier had decided to maintain the petroleum prices at the existing level.

Earlier, on March 15, the federal government maintained the petroleum prices for the next fortnight.

The per-litre price of HSD had stood at Rs258.64, Rs255.63 for petrol, Rs168.12 for kerosene oil and Rs153.34 for light-diesel oil.

Petrol, widely used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, directly affects the daily budgets of middle and lower-middle-class households, who rely heavily on it for commuting.
