MIRPUR (Kashmir English): President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the passing of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir’s mother, it was officially said.
In a statement, the AJK President issued condolence on Tuesday. “I pray that may Allah The Almighty grant the late mother of General Syed Asim Munir a high rank in Jannat-ul-Firdous and give patience to all the bereaved family members,” the statement issued by the AJK President office said.
Mother of COAS Asim Munir laid to rest
Mother of Chief of Army Staff Gen Syed Asim Munir was laid to rest in a Rawalpindi graveyard on Tuesday.
COAS Asim Munir led the funeral prayer for his mother, with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former army chiefs Gen (retired) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Gen (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, former DG ISI Lt Gen (R) Nadeem Anjum, former DG ISPR Lt Gen (retired) Asif Ghafoor, along with other senior military and civil officials in attendance.
The national leaders expressed their condolences to General Asim Munir and prayed for his mother’s elevated ranks in the hereafter.
A large number of senior political and military figures, as well as the general public, also participated in the funeral.
