HAVELI (Kashmir English): The Public Health Department along with other departments of Haveli district on Wednesday started a tree plantation drive in the district over the instruction of Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
As per details, District Health Officer (DHO) Haveli Dr. Jawad Afzal kick off the tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling at Halan Shumali.
The chief guest of the tree plantation ceremony was Lieutenant Colonel Syed Subhan Shah, besides officers of the Forest Department, including staff, and a large number of local people also participated.
During the tree plantation ceremony, Range Officer Forest Abdul Manaf Kayani gave an orientation session to the participants about the importance of tree plantation and tree cultivation.
He informed the participants about the importance of tree planting and tree protection and also informed them about the details of the “Plantation Driver” run by the Government of Azad Kashmir. The Forest Department also distributed various types of saplings in the area and informed the public about the plantation and protection of saplings.
While addressing the ceremony, DHO Haveli Dr. Jawad Afzal Kiani expressed gratitude to the guests and the people of the area and reiterated the commitment to plant trees in all health centers across the district.
“Every employee will be required to plant at least five trees every year and protect them under their supervision,” he said.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of tree planting and termed climate change the biggest problem in the modern era. He said that due to the lack of trees, human health may face more threats in the coming times.
Chief guest Colonel Syed Subhan, while expressing his views, appreciated the “tree plantation drive” being run by the Azad Kashmir government and reiterated the commitment that the Pakistan Army is always ready to work alongside the departments in tree plantation and tree cultivation.
He said that 150,000 trees are being planted in the areas under the administration of 10 AK Brigade. The Forest Department announced to provide them with technical support in this regard.
Colonel paid tribute to DHO Haveli for his special interest in the plantation drive and also thanked him for inviting him as the chief guest.
