LAHORE (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting in Lahore on Sunday, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping Pakistan’s youth with digital skills through an ICT training initiative with Huawei to enhance job opportunities and IT exports.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s dedication to equipping Pakistan’s youth with advanced digital skills, emphasising that all necessary support is being provided to strengthen their expertise in technology.
While presiding over a review meeting in Lahore on Sunday, he discussed an initiative aimed at training 300,000 young people in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in collaboration with Huawei Technologies. Representatives from Huawei were also present at the session.
The meeting reviewed the progress of agreements made with Huawei in China last year and explored strategies to expand digital skills programmes across the country.
Highlighting the vital role of young people in technological advancement, Shehbaz Sharif noted that the ICT training programme would not only help boost Pakistan’s IT exports but also generate employment opportunities.
As part of the initiative, Huawei is providing training in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and other cutting-edge technologies. So far, 20,315 students have completed their training under the programme.
Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the development of an ICT training portal that will offer online learning opportunities to participants. He directed authorities to ensure the swift implementation of the project and to make the portal widely accessible.
Sharif also instructed that the programme be extended to all provinces, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to ensure maximum outreach.
Huawei representatives reaffirmed their commitment to launching advanced training initiatives in Pakistan and developing local master trainers to teach young people at the grassroots level.
