Dust storms, rain expected across Punjab as temperatures drop

LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert warning of strong winds, rain, and possible hailstorms in various districts of Punjab, providing relief from the recent intense heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 26°C on Friday, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C. Dusty winds and intermittent rainfall are forecast to continue in Lahore and several other parts of the province.

The PDMA weather advisory indicates a likelihood of rainfall in districts including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad.

The advisory further stated that rain is also predicted in Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kot Addu, and Mandi Bahauddin.

PDMA has also forecast rain in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, and surrounding areas.

PDMA Director General said that, following instructions from Maryam Nawaz, commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been placed on alert to respond to any weather-related emergencies.

Meanwhile, the Water and Sanitation Agency has directed its operational teams to remain in the field to deal with possible urban flooding and drainage issues in Lahore.

Authorities have advised citizens to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, seek shelter during lightning activity, and exercise caution during strong winds.

Farmers have been urged to take preventive measures to protect crops, while tourists travelling to northern areas have been advised to monitor weather conditions and follow safety guidelines.
