ASTORE, GB (Kashmir English): A tragic incident occurred during the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections, where a presiding officer on polling duty passed away due to heart attack.
According to details, voting was proceeding under normal circumstances at a polling station of constituency GBA-14 (Astore-2).
Meanwhile, Presiding Officer Ilyas Khaki suddenly fainted. Staff present at the scene immediately tried to provide medical aid upon seeing his condition. Later, he was shifted to a nearby hospital. However, he passed away on way to the hospital.
After the incident, an atmosphere of sorrow spread in the area. After completing the necessary procedures by the administration, the deceased’s body was shifted to Eidgah Astore, where arrangements were later made to hand it over to the family.
Despite the tragic incident, the electoral process continued in the constituency. According to officials, strict security arrangements were made at the polling stations to avoid any untoward situation.

During voting, a large number of citizens at various polling stations exercised their right to vote and cast their ballots peacefully.
After the scheduled polling time ended, the process of opening ballot boxes and counting votes began.
