WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Most American citizens believe that the ongoing war with Iran is against US interests.
A recent analysis based on public opinion regarding the ongoing tension and potential war with Iran in the US suggests that majority of American citizens do not consider this conflict beneficial for the country’s interests, rather they deem it detrimental to US interests.
Results from various public polls and surveys have shown that even before the start of military operations against Iran, the majority of the American public was against it, and subsequently, no clear or significant change in the situation has been observed.
The US military operation against Iran began on February 28, and surveys conducted afterward maintained the same trend: a large number of American voters consider this war unnecessary and ineffective.
The experts opine that this kind of public opposition can become a significant challenge for any government, especially when the issue prolongs.
Shibley Telhami, Professor of Peace and Development at the University of Maryland, has conducted numerous public surveys and research studies on this topic.
“Ongoing war with Iran not advancing US interests”
He found that very few American citizens believe that an ongoing or potential war with Iran was advancing US national interests effectively.
He states that public opinion can directly influence American policymaking.
Political analysts are of the opinion that if this war continues for a long time and public opposition increases or remains consistent, its effects will not be limited to foreign policy but will also impact domestic politics, government decisions, and future elections.
