MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday announced the schedule for the general elections 2026, including the polling date.
Addressing the press conference today, the Chief Election Commissioner, Retired Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, confirmed that the general elections will be held on July 27, 2026 from 8 am to 5 pm.

- Period for filing nomination papers: June 9 to June 19, 2026
- Scrutiny of nomination papers: June 20, 2026
- Hearing of appeals: June 26 to 27, 2026
- Last date for withdrawal of candidates: June 30, 2026
- Allotment of election symbols: July 2, 2026
- Publication of final list of candidates: July 2, 2026
- Polling day: July 27, 2026
The notification issued by the Election Commission will come into effect immediately. After the announcement of elections, political activities are likely to intensify further across Azad Kashmir.

Security Measures during Elections
The Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Kashmir has announced a series of measures ahead of the upcoming general elections, declaring an immediate ban on all development schemes across the region.
According to the Election Commission, appointments, transfers, and the creation of new posts in all government departments have also been prohibited to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
The Chief Election Commissioner further stated that the general elections will be conducted under the supervision of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Army and Rangers to maintain law and order during the polling process.
The election schedule has also been released, with candidates allowed to submit their nomination papers from June 9 to June 19. The restrictions are part of the election code of conduct aimed at preventing the misuse of official resources during the campaign period.
