RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Afridi has defended the preparation of home pitches, saying every team takes advantage of home conditions and Pakistan should do the same after securing a series victory against Australia.

Pakistan clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1 after defeating Australia by four wickets in the third and decisive match on Thursday. Chasing a target of 158 runs, the Green Shirts reached the total in the 42nd over to seal the series.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shaheen Afridi said it was too early to discuss Pakistan’s prospects for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, which is still more than a year away.

Commenting on the nature of the pitches, the Pakistan captain said every country prepares pitches according to its strengths during home series.

“Everyone makes their own pitches in home series, and we should have won the series as well,” Shaheen said.

He added that the surfaces were challenging for batting, and scoring runs was not easy throughout the series.

Shaheen also explained the team’s decision to maintain a consistent playing XI, saying changes were avoided to provide players with continuity and confidence.

The fast bowler came to the defense of vice-captain Shadab Khan, who had faced criticism over his recent performances.

“There were questions raised about Shadab Khan, but he bowled with control and played an important role in winning the match,” he said.

Haris Rauf Preferred as Second Pacer

The Pakistan captain noted that Haris Rauf was considered the better option as the second fast bowler in the playing XI. He further stressed that experienced players are working hard to improve their performances and deserve more opportunities.

“The senior players are also trying to improve, so they should be given some opportunities,” Shaheen added.

Pakistan’s series victory over Australia is being viewed as an important boost for the team as it continues preparations for future international assignments.
